Sona Masoori Rice - Check the Nutrition Label
Sona Masoori Rice by DesiReviews
We, being Desi, cannot live without rice— at least, some of us. Previously, I used to only eat Basmati Rice until I learned that Basmati Rice is not healthy for everyday consumption.
Sona Masoori is unpolished and contains less starch compared to Basmati Rice, which results in fewer carbs and makes it easier to digest. Of course, you won't find Biryani made with Sona Masoori Rice in restaurants, as it lacks the fragrance, texture, and long grain that Basmati offers.
I discovered more when I started shopping for Sona Masoori Rice. Instead of checking the price, has anyone ever looked at the nutrition label?
I was exploring ways to eat healthier and began examining various Sona Masoori rice bags. Calories, Sugar, Carbs, Saturated Fat, Sodium, Dietary Fiber had great variations.
After nearly an hour going through all the bags in Patel Brothers. I found the following few bags that had the least of these.
- Zafarani Sona Masoori Rice | 100 calories per 1/4 cup | 0g Fat | 42g of Carbs | 3g of Protein
- Hi Rego Foods Sona Masoori Rice | 160 Calories per 1/4 cup | Og of Fat | 35g of Carbs
- DEEP Sona Masoori Rice | 160 Calories per 1/4 cup | Og of Fat | 34g of Carbs | 1g Dietary Fiber
- Royal Sona Masoori Rice | 160 Calories per 1/4 cup | Og of Fat | 36g of Carbs | 1g of Protein
- Sai Ram Sona Masoori Rice |160 Calories per 1/4 cup | Og of Fat | 36g of Carbs | 3g of Protein | 2g Dietary Fiber
Notes:
- Royal had Potassium and Calcium listed on Rice bag and also said Non GMO
- Zarfani listed GMO Free and Gluten Free on Rice bag
- Deep had iron listed on Rice bag
- Each region will be different but in NY these were the ones I found at Patel’s. I will definitely check other stores to see if any other brands are available.
- Price was ranging from $13.99 – $15.99 for 20lbs bags.
- This info was written on the package and can change at any time. Please always check the label when purchasing.
I ended up purchasing ZarFani rice, and I liked it. I have tried the Hi Rego Food brand at a friend’s house, and it was good, but I preferred Zarfrani more because the taste and texture were great. The rice was easy to handle and light. Hopefully, we get a chance to try the other brands mentioned above once I finish the Zarfani 20lbs rice bag. It cost $14.99.
Thank you for checking out the review.
